The end of Windows 10 is approaching
Published on: 6/11/24, 11:52 AMThere's no need to panic, Windows 11 is coming but it's not as daunting as you might think!
We are helping schools to understand and manage this important change with minimal disruption to the classroom.
The end of support for Windows 10 is approaching, however, there is plenty of time to get your house in order and plan ahead for a smooth transition. While your devices will continue to function, they will no longer receive security updates so it's important not to ignore the changes and seek advice when you need it.
As you may or may not know, Microsoft first introduced Windows 10 back in 2015. Since then, it has become a staple in our schools, businesses, and homes it makes you wonder if Microsoft expected Windows 10 to be as successful as it has been!
The updated version of Windows, according to Microsoft, promises to activates superpowers in employees through its new and improved AI features that enhance multitasking, and foster ingenuity and creativity! The Windows for Business page is sure to ignite your excitement and enthusiasm for the switch, click here to visit the website.
It is tempting to view the ‘passing’ of Windows 10 (or more strictly speaking, the end of support for it), as merely just another date in the calendar, however it does draw attention to the need to make plans and think ahead.
Here are our ICT 4 top tips for you to consider:
1. Don't panic
Your devices will carry on working just as they always have done, however, it’s important to recognise that security updates will no longer be provided. This reduces cyber security significantly.
There is still lots of time to get organised, you have until October 2025.
2. Check eligibility
If you are already an iCT4 customer then get in touch with us through the helpdesk, email or phone, and we’ll be able to check the eligibility of your hardware. For those of you not working with us, we can still help so drop us an email and a member of the team will be in touch.
3. Seize the opportunity
This is a great chance to review the overall age, performance and suitability of the hardware. Chances are, if your device does not support Windows 11 then it’s not a spring chicken anyway and could be a good contender for upgrades or a refresh to ensure sprightly performance as well as that all-important Windows 11 support.
4. Plan ahead
As well as the actual upgrades, it's important to schedule in some training sessions for staff so that they understand how to use the essential features and how to undertake further training as and when they need it.
Reviewing the back-up system before upgrading can save you a lot of pain and anguish later on. Seek advice for an IT professional as they will be able to identify and address any issues before the upgrade process gets started.
Here are some questions you might want to ask yourself, or explore with your team:
Is it better to take a phased approach to upgrading or set aside a day to get everything updated at the same time?

Are all our backup systems running smoothly and do they need an upgrade before we start the process?
